Extending your healthcare team
Request a referral for specialists or diagnostic tests 24/7
Your primary care doctor will discuss your specialist needs and write a referral letter with clinical information about your condition. This may be for a specialist doctor, allied health professional, radiology, or pathology. A valid referral is required for a Medicare rebate on specialist consultations, and some specialists may not see you without one. Our doctors are online 24 hours a day, even on public holidays, to help you access the care you need.
Convenient access to expert care
Doctor referrals for second opinions or ongoing management
If you’ve been diagnosed with a condition you can also ask your doctor to refer you to a specialist for further investigation, a second opinion, treatment, or management. A standard referral lasts for 12 months, but can be made for an indefinite period which is useful for chronic or ongoing conditions. You can book online, anytime to speak with a doctor.

What next?
Your doctor is central to your care co-ordination
Your doctor will continue to oversee your overall health needs even after referring you to a specialist, so you may still want or need to check in with them during that time. Most referrals last 12 months, covering a single course of treatment. If you develop a new health issue, you’ll need a new referral.
Speak with an online doctor about a referral from the privacy & comfort of your own home, 24/7.
Make sure you check with your referred provider about any out-of-pocket fees associated with their services, if any, after the Medicare rebate has been applied.
